Make your Own Low-calorie Tailgate Party Treats
Bringing food and beverages that are low calorie to a tailgate or home party is another way of being certain that there are choices that are available to stay focused on your game plan.
- Tossed green salad with vinaigrette
- Veggies with plain low fat plain yogurt flavored with garlic and onion
- Fresh cut up fruit
- Grilled chicken or turkey
- Sandwiches on sliced bread not rolls
- Smoked salmon
If the plan is to maintain weight during the football season, exercise can burn the extra calories eaten during tailgate parties. Even when exercise is part of a routine, more calories means more exercise. Don't think that running around at work or at home is enough. This routine activity maintains weight with the weekly diet routine. More energy expenditure is needed when eating extra calories on weekends. Simple things like:
- Walking 10 minutes three times a day in the house up and down the hallway or around the dining room or kitchen table
- Going up and down the stairs 10 times
- Parking farther away from the entrance of work or a shopping center.
- Lifting weights while watching television. Weights can be as simple as two full water bottles
Don't forget to weigh in at the start and end of the weekend. If the weight is starting to creep up, be extra careful about choosing food at the party.
Surviving the football tailgate season is possible when you are in the game. Have a healthy fall.
