Thinking About Starting an Exercise Program? Click it... Map it... Walk it!!
Now that spring is just around the corner, it's a great time to think about starting, or restarting, a walking program. Walking is a great way to get in shape . . . and, it's one of the most natural forms of exercise, so there's no advance training involved. If you're an exercise novice, it will help you achieve a higher level of fitness and health. Even if you're already physically fit, you'll benefit from brisk walks.
Now, there's a website sponsored by the American Heart Association that will help you get moving in the right direction. Check out www.startwalkingnow.org for walking tips and tools that promote healthy living. Here's some of what you will find on the site:
- Walking Path Locater... will direct you to nearby American Heart Association-approved paths. You can even find and create walking paths from your phone by downloading the AHA Walking Paths App for Android and iPhone.
- Activity Tracker... lets you log your times or distances traveled, plot and save your walking routes, and enter your daily meals and snacks.
- Personalized Walking Plan... allows you to take a short quiz, then builds a walking plan based on your specific physical characteristics and lifestyle.
The AHA Start Walking Now site can also connect you with organized walking clubs in your area, so you can start off on the right foot!
